Chetumal, Quintana Roo – The Department of Vectors has intensified health actions in southern Quintana Roo communities through active searches for people with fever, with the objective of preventing and timely detecting malaria cases. These activities were carried out in the locality of Sergio Butrón Casas, where health personnel visited homes to identify symptoms and guide the population about the importance of seeking timely care.
Simultaneously, health brigades carried out the same strategy in the community of Xulhá, as part of a permanent preventive scheme. Early detection of people with fever allows for cutting transmission chains and preventing the disease from advancing, especially in areas where conditions exist that facilitate the presence of the transmitting mosquito.
Likewise, the Department of Vectors of Health Jurisdiction No. 1 extended these actions to sugarcane cutter shelters in the locality of Allende, following the recent arrival of workers due to the start of the harvest season. The mobility of people and concentration in temporary spaces increases health risks, so epidemiological surveillance was prioritized at these points.
Health authorities indicated that these actions not only seek to protect agricultural workers, but also the communities that receive them. They emphasized that malaria is a preventable disease if detected early, so they called on the population to allow health personnel access and immediately seek medical review upon any fever symptoms.
