Playa del Carmen, Mexico — State Attorney General Raciel López Salazar has revealed details regarding a criminal cell dismantled in Playa del Carmen, where authorities seized 13 long firearms, bulletproof vests, and drugs. Among those arrested is a woman identified as Sara Jazmín, alias “La Miche,” who is described as a key figure in the recruitment of hitmen.
According to the Attorney General, “La Miche” is the sister of a man currently imprisoned in Quintana Roo. Acting on his instructions, she traveled from Jalisco to Cancún to take charge of procuring personnel for the criminal organization.
Her recruitment efforts primarily targeted individuals from Guerrero, Jalisco, and Michoacán with experience in private security, whom she contacted through advertisements on social media platforms. Once interested parties accepted the offer, she would pay for their flights to Cancún and transport them to safe houses in Playa del Carmen.
Furthermore, she administered funds for the group’s sustenance, managed financial transfers to criminal leaders, opened fake accounts to attract more recruits, and received an extra bonus of one thousand pesos for each new member.
Another detainee was identified as Julio César “N.”, who was recruited in 2023 in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. According to investigative reports, he received training in the mountains of that state in the handling of weapons and explosives. He began with surveillance duties to alert the group to the presence of authorities in Puerto Vallarta, earning a weekly salary of 5,000 pesos, until he was transferred to Playa del Carmen, where he became a hitman.
The Attorney General stated that at the time of their arrest, the members of the cell were awaiting more reinforcements and weapons, as they intended to form a structure capable of disputing control of the territory from rival groups in the northern part of the state.
The Attorney General also revealed a chilling testimony: one of the detainees, identified as Jorge, claimed that during his training in the mountains of Jalisco, he was alongside approximately 120 people, and those who failed the tests were executed. He even recounted that four of the aspirants were murdered and then cooked to feed the group, an act that exposes the brutality of these criminal organizations.
