Car Fraud Network Exposed in Cancún Market

Cancún car market where fraud network operates

Cancún, Mexico — Affected citizens have denounced fraud in car sales by an individual in the municipality of Benito Juárez. According to the victims, after completing the purchase of a vehicle, it was reported as stolen within hours, leaving buyers in a vulnerable situation.

One of the victims recounted purchasing a car from a man identified as Alfredo “N” at the car market in Supermanzana 96, located on Chacmol Avenue between Nichupté and Andrés Quintana Roo. Subsequently, the vehicle’s occupants were detained by police after it was confirmed that the car had been reported as stolen.

When questioned, the seller claimed to work with a woman named María, who handles the delivery of refacturation documents while the scammers retain the original invoice, a strategy that allows them to appear legitimate and sustain the fraud during any inspection.

This is at least the second case recorded at this market, a space that functions as a car expo and continues to operate without supervision or sanctions from authorities, keeping buyers at risk and highlighting the lack of control over these activities.

The affected citizens have called on authorities to thoroughly investigate, identify those responsible, and sanction the scammers, while warning the public about the risks of buying vehicles at this location to prevent more victims.
