Join Huellas de Conciencia: Reflect & Restore in Cozumel

Cozumel, Mexico — The Fundación de Parques y Museos de Cozumel (FPMC) has extended an open invitation to the community to participate in the upcoming edition of its "Huellas de Conciencia" (Footprints of Awareness) program. The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 28, at 9:00 a.m. at the Punta Sur Ecotourism Park.

A Dual Focus on Reflection and Restoration

The initiative aims to promote emotional well-being and environmental stewardship while strengthening the bond between residents and the island’s natural surroundings. Juanita Alonso Marrufo, FPMC’s director general, emphasized the program’s alignment with the foundation’s mission to foster harmony between society and the environment.

The event is part of the broader "Nuevo Acuerdo por el Bienestar y Desarrollo de Quintana Roo" (New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo), supported by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa.

Program Structure

The event will consist of two main segments:

1. Mindfulness and Meditation Session
   Led by instructor Luis Miguel Pérez Martín, participants will engage in guided reflection on the importance of ecosystem conservation and the region’s biocultural heritage. The session will take place in a privileged natural setting along the Caribbean Sea.

2. Mangrove Restoration Activity
   Attendees will participate in the restoration of the mangrove ecosystem in Laguna X’tacún. The activity will include educational components highlighting the ecological role of mangroves as natural barriers, carbon traps, and reservoirs for terrestrial and marine biodiversity.

Open to All

Jesús Benavides Andrade, director of Punta Sur, confirmed that the program is open to environmental groups, educational institutions, socially responsible businesses, and the general public. Through such initiatives, the FPMC reinforces its commitment to raising awareness about the need to protect and preserve local ecosystems, ensuring a more sustainable future for Cozumel.
