Cozumel, Mexico — In celebration of the national holidays and with the purpose of opening spaces for artistic expression for new generations, the Foundation of Parks and Museums of Cozumel (FPMC) is inviting girls, boys, and young people to participate in the XXI Mexican Song Contest, to be held on September 26 at the auditorium of the Museum of the Island.
The Director General of the FPMC, Juanita Alonso Marrufo, emphasized that this contest is part of the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa. She underscored that this initiative reaffirms the commitment to open spaces for the children and youth of Cozumel to express their talent and strengthen their connection with culture.
“It is essential that new generations take an interest in regional music and the works of Mexican authors, because through them they not only develop their talent but also strengthen their cultural identity and pride in our roots,” stated the Director of Pedagogy and Social Assistance (PAS), Dianela Cervantes Chi, the event's organizer.
The contest is divided into two categories: children, from 6 to 11 years old, and youth, from 12 to 15 years old. Participants must reside on the island and may only perform songs by Mexican authors, with recorded musical accompaniment.
The jury will evaluate aspects such as pitch, intonation, meter, diction, and interpretation to determine the winners. All contestants will receive a certificate of participation, while the top three winners in each category will receive cash prizes: $2,500.00 for first place, $2,000.00 for second place, and $1,500.00 for third place.
It should be noted that, to provide an opportunity for new talents, those who won first place in the children's and youth categories of the XX Mexican Song Contest will not be eligible to participate.
Registration is now open and takes place at the BiblioAvión Gervasio, located on Avenida 130 between Calles 7 Sur and Miguel Hidalgo, in the San Gervasio neighborhood, from Monday to Friday, from 09:00 to 19:00 hours.
