Semefo personnel at the restaurant scene in Mérida

Mérida, Yucatán — A young foreigner died on Sunday afternoon inside one of the establishments at the “El Patio” commercial plaza (formerly “Sendero”), when he suddenly collapsed while enjoying a taco. The location was secured for judicial proceedings following the incident.

According to information gathered at the scene, the 28-year-old, who was of American nationality, was eating inside the establishment called “Tacos City Café” when he suddenly collapsed and began convulsing.

In response, restaurant employees immediately called the emergency number 911 while trying to help the young man.

Within minutes, paramedics from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) arrived at the site, but unfortunately could only confirm that the young man no longer showed vital signs. The area was then secured by the Police while agents from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) arrived.

After the corresponding investigations, SSP personnel allowed the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) to handle the removal of the body for the mandatory autopsy to determine the cause of death.
