Tizimín, Yucatán — The inaugural Rabbit Festival will be held in Tizimín from June 13 to 15, aiming to highlight the cultural and economic significance of rabbit farming in the region. The event will take place at the Tizimín fairgrounds and will showcase the benefits of cuniculture, an industry that has seen steady growth in Yucatán.

Promoting Rabbit Farming and Its Benefits

The festival will emphasize the multifaceted uses of rabbits, ranging from the production of lean and nutritious meat to therapeutic applications such as rabbit-assisted therapy, known as cuniterapia.

Juan Pablo Dzib Santos, a producer and promoter of the festival, stressed that the initiative seeks to raise public awareness about the qualities of rabbit meat, presenting it as a healthy, sustainable, and economically viable food alternative.

Festival Activities and Economic Impact

The three-day event will feature culinary tastings, craft exhibitions, and discussion forums with conferences led by experts and key stakeholders in the rabbit farming sector. Approximately 35 producers are expected to participate, with organizers anticipating significant economic spillover for the local community.

The festival aims to establish itself as an annual tradition in Tizimín, further promoting the region’s cuniculture industry.
