Playa del Carmen — Tulum will host the first Caribbean International Biennial, an event scheduled for the 20th, 21st, and 22nd of this month. The gathering brings together the five federated colleges of architects from Quintana Roo—Cancún, Chetumal, Tulum, and Riviera Maya—to promote professional and academic exchange in the region.

58 Projects to Be Evaluated

The president of the College of Architects of the Riviera Maya, Manuel Alfonzo Barrero Gutiérrez, announced that the event will include the Pan-American Federation of Architects' Associations, through the vice presidency of the Caribbean Region, which broadens the international scope of the competition.

The biennial received 58 projects from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and the Mexican Caribbean, which will be evaluated by a jury that includes two former presidents of the International Union of Architects.

Program Includes Keynote Lectures

The program includes keynote lectures on the relationship between Mayan architecture and modern architecture. Furthermore, the event aims to construct a student manifesto on the future of architecture in Quintana Roo, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

On the 21st, a tour of the Jaguar Park, the Mayan Train, and the Tulum Airport will take place as part of the event's technical agenda.
