Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A loud explosion alerted residents of the Puerto Maya subdivision, where a fire damaged the outdoor furniture of a restaurant during the early morning hours.
Personnel from the Fire Department were dispatched to the Puerto Maya subdivision in the municipality of Puerto Aventuras following a report of a fire at a restaurant, which suffered damage to furniture located in the exterior area.
The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m., when neighbors heard a loud explosion outside the Grills Riviera Maya restaurant, located in stage 3 of the subdivision on Calzada Puerto Maya Avenue.
Upon going out to check the situation, residents noticed that the exterior part of the establishment was on fire, so they immediately requested support from firefighters through the emergency number 911.
Personnel from the Secretariat of Citizen Security, Civil Protection, and the Heroic Fire Department arrived at the site and managed to extinguish the fire, which caused damage to several tables placed outside the restaurant.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Authorities conducted an inspection in the area to begin corresponding investigations and determine the causes of the incident, which is presumed to have been intentionally set.
