FELIPE CARRILLO PUERTO, Mexico — Producers in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, in a coordinated effort with members of the organization Uyóolche, are preparing the second annual culinary competition in the framework of National Corn Day.

The objective of the contest is to recognize and preserve the flavors, aromas, knowledge, and customs surrounding corn. The Uyóolche association has called on residents of the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto to participate in the second corn gastronomy contest.

The competition will be held on September 27 at the agro-ecological eco-market to celebrate National Corn Day, according to María Antonieta Bocanegra, representing Uyóolche.

It was announced that participants may present only one proposal. The dishes presented must have corn as the main ingredient. All proposals must use natural ingredients; participants who use processed ingredients, such as canned corn or tomato puree, will be disqualified.

The organizing committee announced that a first-place prize will be awarded. Registrations are open from the publication of the call for entries until Friday, September 26. Inquiries can be directed to cell phone number 983 112 9644.

Last year, during the first contest, notable dishes included kimbomba, Lol k’uum, and joroch’ito with squash blossoms. The event featured four women from different rural communities in the municipalities of Felipe Carrillo Puerto and José María Morelos.
