Cancún, Mexico — A young motorcyclist and his passenger, a minor, died after losing control of their vehicle while speeding along Bonampak Avenue in Cancún. Authorities have issued a renewed call for greater responsibility while driving.

Tragic Collision Leaves Family in Mourning

A heartbreaking tragedy has left a family in mourning and serves as an urgent reminder to the city’s motorcyclists. In the early hours of Thursday, a 21-year-old student lost his life after crashing into the central median on Bonampak Avenue near Supermanzana 223. His 16-year-old passenger also died later at General Hospital.

According to authorities, the driver, identified as Ángel Sebastián Pech Arjona, was riding a red Carabela-brand motorcycle with Quintana Roo license plate 65UPZ8. Preliminary reports indicate excessive speed caused him to lose control, leading to the fatal collision with the median.

The passenger, Ingrid Monserrat de los Santos, was treated by paramedics from ERUM Unit 007 and rushed to General Hospital. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries.

Authorities Urge Caution

The incident underscores the dangers of reckless driving, particularly on motorcycles, which are agile but highly vulnerable in accidents. Municipal transit officials issued an urgent plea to the motorcycling community: adhere to speed limits, always wear helmets, and never underestimate the risks of high-speed driving in urban areas.

“Every life matters,” officials stated. “Let this tragedy not be another statistic, but a reminder that respecting traffic laws saves lives. Drive responsibly. Always return home.”

The community continues to grapple with the consequences of preventable accidents and violence, as authorities emphasize the need for vigilance and adherence to safety measures.
