Cancún, Mexico — Relatives of one of the eight individuals injured in a severe accident in Cancún on Sunday, July 6, have denounced the taxi union “Andrés Quintana Roo” and its insurer for failing to cover medical expenses, putting the victim’s health at risk.

Victim in Critical Condition

The injured party, José Anizeto Martín Caamal, 59, was a passenger in a Transporte Terrestre Estatal (TTE) Route 5 van operated by the taxi union. The driver reportedly ran a red light at the intersection of Miguel Hidalgo Avenue and Lombardo Toledano, colliding with two other vehicles.

Martín Caamal is currently hospitalized at Cancún’s General Hospital “Jesús Kumate,” where his family claims the facility lacks the necessary resources for his treatment. They are urgently seeking assistance to transfer him to a private clinic.

Plea for Help

A family member, identified as Luz Dzib, issued a public appeal via social media:

“Good afternoon, Cancún community. I’m making this post in hopes that it reaches the right people who can help us with an open heart. I trust in God and know social media is powerful. My brother-in-law’s father is in serious condition at the general hospital. He suffered the worst injuries in Sunday’s van accident. Unfortunately, the hospital doesn’t have the resources to perform the surgery he urgently needs. José Anizeto has multiple rib and pelvic fractures, among other injuries. Initially, the insurer promised to take responsibility, but they’ve delayed and tried to avoid accountability. His life is in danger.”

Dzib provided contact numbers (998-347-8356 and 998-766-9321) for those willing to assist and urged authorities or business leaders to intervene.

Deteriorating Prognosis

Medical reports classify Martín Caamal’s condition as “grave, with a poor short-term prognosis, high risk of neurological and respiratory deterioration, and potential complications in the short, medium, and long term.”

Pattern of Negligence

Other victims of accidents involving TTE vans and taxi union drivers have previously accused the union of delaying accountability to discourage claims.

The family demands that the union, the driver, and the insurer fulfill their obligations and face legal consequences.

The family continues to seek immediate assistance to save Martín Caamal’s life.
