CANCÚN — A four-month-old infant is in delicate health at the General Hospital "Dr. Jesús Kumate Rodríguez" and could lose her right hand due to an alleged case of medical negligence.
The parents of the infant reported that they admitted their daughter to the hospital on August 20 with symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, and fever, which were initially diagnosed as dehydration. According to the parents, although the infant's condition did not appear critical, she was immediately hospitalized and subjected to procedures they consider excessive and unnecessary.
They mentioned that the infant was sedated under conditions similar to those of a patient in a vegetative state. Additionally, a tracheal tube and a nasal probe were placed, which the family characterized as unjustified.
One week later, on August 27, both devices were removed and the infant regained consciousness. However, the family asserts that during the hospitalization, the child sustained multiple injuries, including hematomas, third-degree burns, and various lacerations on her arms and feet caused by repeated attempts to establish an intravenous line.
The situation is further aggravated by a medical opinion that proposes the amputation of the girl's right hand due to the severe damage suffered.
Faced with this grave situation, the family has requested the intervention of state and federal authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and to assign responsibility. Furthermore, they mentioned that they have photographic evidence of the injuries, which they will present to the corresponding authorities to support their complaint.
The General Hospital "Dr. Jesús Kumate Rodríguez" has not issued any statement regarding the case, but the family is demanding justice and adequate care for their child.
