Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A speeding driver lost control of their vehicle, mounted the central median, and subsequently collided with a bus on Federal Highway 307 near Paamul. The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Sequence of Events
The driver of a black Toyota Hilux was traveling southbound on the federal highway when, just before reaching the turnaround near the Hard Rock Hotel, the vehicle veered onto the median. The truck spun out, striking a Mayab company bus that was following behind.
After the initial impact, the Hilux crossed into oncoming traffic and hit the rear of another bus, operated by LIPU. The out-of-control vehicle continued spinning before crashing into a utility pole owned by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE). The truck sustained severe rear-end damage, though the driver emerged unharmed.
Response and Aftermath
Officers from the National Guard’s highway division arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation and coordinate the removal of the wreckage. A tow truck was called to clear the roadway and restore traffic flow.
