Dzilam de Bravo, Yucatán — Two known drug traffickers and poachers escaped arrest early Saturday morning after receiving advance warning of a federal operation in the coastal town of Dzilam de Bravo. Authorities confirmed the suspects fled through a nearby marshland just before the arrival of law enforcement.
Suspects Identified and Operation Details
At approximately 5:00 a.m., Abran R. P., alias El Calakas, and Miguel Ángel P. G., known as La Jaiba, were alerted to the impending raid, allowing them to evade capture. Both individuals are linked to drug trafficking and illegal hunting of protected marine species.
A joint operation involving the Mexican Army, National Guard, State Public Security Secretariat, and agents from the State Attorney General’s Office executed a search warrant for two properties near the local baseball field. The first location belonged to Abran R. P., the son of a former mayor, while the second was tied to Miguel Ángel P. G., a Veracruz native.
Seizures and Escape
Despite the suspects' escape, authorities recovered significant quantities of marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, and other illegal substances from the raided properties. Investigators also noted the removal of firearms and contraband, including sea cucumber and conch, prior to the operation.
Federal forces spotted the suspects attempting to return for additional narcotics but lost them as they fled into the marsh. The exact amount of seized contraband will be confirmed by federal authorities.
Suspect Profiles:
- Abran R. P. (El Calakas) – A local drug trafficker with ties to the area.
- Miguel Ángel P. G. (La Jaiba) – Originally from Veracruz, involved in drug sales and illegal wildlife trade.
