Riviera Maya, Mexico — A car was found heavily damaged and abandoned in the brush following a serious single-vehicle accident on the Playa del Carmen–Tulum highway near the Pavo Real hotel. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, required a response from Civil Protection elements who secured the area.
The vehicle, a Nissan Sentra with Quintana Roo license plate USX-739-K, was discovered with its front end and left side completely destroyed. To prevent a potential fire, rescue personnel opened the unit and disconnected the battery due to the severity of the structural damage.
Among the debris located at the scene were a spare tire, a jack, and a reflector, indications that the driver may have attempted some kind of maneuver or repair either before or after the impact.
At this time, there is no knowledge of any injured persons, as the automobile was found abandoned. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the crash and the reasons why the driver left the unit after veering off the road.
The National Guard of Highways has been notified of the incident to begin the corresponding procedures, while the vehicle remains under guard pending a determination of its legal status and to clarify how the accident occurred.
