Cancún, Mexico — A section of a dock collapsed following a boat collision in Cancún’s Hotel Zone on the evening of May 1, 2025, prompting emergency crews to rescue two individuals who fell into the water. The incident occurred near the Aquatours marina at kilometer 6.5 of Boulevard Kukulcán.
Emergency Response and Rescue
Authorities received reports of the accident shortly before 9:00 p.m. Initial rumors suggested a building collapse at the nearby Riu Hotel, but officials confirmed the incident was isolated to the marina. A vessel struck the dock, causing a portion of the structure to give way. Two people, who were disembarking from the boat at the time, fell into the water but were quickly rescued.
Emergency personnel, including Civil Protection, firefighters, and Tourist Police, arrived at the scene. Paramedics evaluated the two individuals and determined they did not require hospitalization. Witnesses reported that the boat’s owner arrived later to address liability concerns and insisted the victims receive medical attention, though none was needed.
No Serious Injuries Reported
The rescued individuals, believed to be tourists, escaped without injuries. Authorities did not disclose their nationalities. The dock sustained visible damage, but no further casualties were reported.
Recent Incidents in Cancún
The collision adds to a series of recent accidents in the tourist destination. Earlier this week, six people were injured in a crash involving a public transport van and two motorcyclists traveling at high speed in the wrong direction. In another incident, a driver lost control of a van in the La Joya neighborhood, crashing into a wall.
Cancún’s coastal and roadways have seen multiple emergencies, though maritime collisions of this scale remain less common than traffic-related incidents.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the dock collapse. No additional details about the boat or its operator have been released.
