Cancún, Mexico — A fatal traffic accident was recorded on Tuesday morning on Boulevard Kukulcán when a driver struck a cyclist, causing his instant death in front of the Jardín del Arte at kilometer 4.5 of Cancún's Hotel Zone.

The deceased was identified as Felipe "N", who was left lying on the pavement next to his bicycle, which was completely destroyed by the impact. Eyewitnesses stated that the accident occurred around 06:10 hours, when the victim was traveling in the direction of the airport.

According to reports, witnesses immediately called the emergency number 911 around 06:30 hours, requesting medical support. Paramedics from the company Life arrived at the site but confirmed the cyclist no longer had vital signs due to the severe injuries he sustained.

The alleged person responsible for the hit-and-run, who was driving a gray Suzuki XL7, attempted to flee the scene after the incident, continuing for several kilometers. However, she was intercepted and detained by elements of the Tourist Police at kilometer 8 of Boulevard Kukulcán.

The preliminary report from the authorities established that the woman was driving at excessive speed and without due caution, which caused the impact with the cyclist who was traveling in the same direction.

Agents from the Transit Police, personnel from Investigations, and forensic experts from the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) attended the scene. They carried out the corresponding procedures, including the removal of the body and the transfer of the involved vehicle to the impound lot for investigation.

The incident has generated outrage among athletes and local residents, who are demanding greater speed control in the area and better safety conditions for cyclists who travel daily on Boulevard Kukulcán.

The authorities are keeping the driver in custody while her legal situation is determined before the Public Prosecutor's Office for her alleged responsibility in the crime of vehicular manslaughter.
