Rosarito, Baja California — Cozumel has reaffirmed its status as one of the world’s most spectacular destinations after earning two prestigious awards in Tripadvisor’s 2025 Travelers’ Choice Awards “Best of the Best.” This distinction is granted to only the top 1% of globally top-rated destinations and establishments.
Recognized Among Mexico’s Best
In this year’s awards, the iconic El Cielito beach was named one of the top five beaches in Mexico, while the idyllic Isla de la Pasión received a special 25th-anniversary recognition from Tripadvisor, having accumulated over a thousand positive reviews in the past year.
“This award is a source of pride for the people of Cozumel. Everyone promotes it, visits it, and takes care of it. It’s an opportunity to reflect on the importance of protecting our beaches and continuing to promote them with love,” said Municipal President José Luis Chacón Méndez upon receiving the honors.
Chacón Méndez also emphasized that the warmth and hospitality of the island’s residents have been key to achieving this milestone. “Receiving this award on behalf of my fellow Cozumeleños is a tremendous honor,” he stated.
Selection Based on Traveler Reviews
Tatiana Páez, a Tripadvisor representative, explained that winners are selected based on the quantity and quality of reviews shared by travelers worldwide on the platform.
Beatriz Tinajero, President of the Cozumel Hotel Association, celebrated the fact that this marks the second consecutive year the island has received these accolades. “It’s proof that we are in a little slice of paradise, and we take pride in caring for it together. These partnerships help more people discover the gem we hold in our hands,” she said.
Plans to Enhance Tourism Services
Chacón Méndez announced that Cozumel is already collaborating with Tripadvisor to provide training for tourism operators, hoteliers, and restaurateurs. The initiative aims to further elevate service quality and strengthen overnight tourism, a key strategy for the sustainable economic development of the island.
