Cozumel, Mexico — The Cozumel City Council, in conjunction with the Permanent Carnival Advisory Council, has presented the call for entries for Kings and Queens in each category to be elected for the 152nd edition of Cozumel's premier festival. For the first time, this process is being initiated before the month of October, with at least four months of anticipation.

This past weekend, the presentation of the call for entries to choose the future Kings and Queens of the Cozumel Carnival 2026 took place. The call outlines the participation requirements for those interested in obtaining a candidacy for one of the highest positions within the carnival celebration, which is the oldest in Quintana Roo.

During the event to present the official call for entries, which officially kicks off preparations for Cozumel's premier carnival festival, the members of the Permanent Carnival Advisory Council of Cozumel were also introduced. This independent body is represented by its president, Arturo Becerra Martín.

The stated intention is to promote this event as a "cultural and tourist reference at the national and international level, preserving its family-friendly and inclusive character." This vision, from the council itself, aims to guarantee that every element of this festival reflects the cultural richness and joy that characterizes the people of Cozumel.

The 2026 call for entries stipulates that each participant must meet specific requirements. These include submitting a birth certificate, a CURP (Unique Population Registry Code), proof of address, a health certificate, an INE (Voter ID) or passport, and a one-page letter of intent stating the reasons for seeking to become a Carnival King or Queen. Additionally, candidates must have the endorsement of a sovereign from a past edition. All documents must be submitted no later than October 10.

This year, the published age ranges are 18 to 30 years old for aspirants to Carnival Queen, and 18 to 50 years old for aspirants to Kings for the case of the top representatives. These age ranges were chosen to foster greater competition and to ensure that the winners can subsequently serve as representatives of the festivities at promotion and representation events.
