COVID-19 Cases in Quintana Roo Jump 80% to 18

Quintana Roo — COVID-19 cases in Quintana Roo rose 80% in a week, with eight new infections bringing the state’s 2026 total to 18, according to the National Epidemiological Surveillance System (Sinave).

The increase moved the state from 21st to 18th place nationally, while the case rate climbed from 0.9 to 1.5 per 100,000 residents.

Across the Yucatan Peninsula, Yucatan state leads with 28 accumulated cases after adding 11 in the same week. Campeche has eight.

Nationally, Mexico City accounts for 33.7% of all cases, followed by the State of Mexico (9.8%), Hidalgo (8.3%), Puebla (5.3%), and Jalisco (4.6%).

Quintana Roo has reported no COVID-19 deaths, while the country has recorded 36. Official tallies reflect cases by residence and symptom onset, with deaths attributed by the location and date of notification.

Unofficially, a possible outbreak at a kindergarten in Cancun surfaced in late July. Some children tested positive, but the number of related cases has not been confirmed.

Health authorities recommend preventive measures, particularly for children, older adults, and people with chronic conditions. Those with fever, cough, sore throat, or general discomfort should avoid school or work, use masks when necessary, and seek medical care.

Measles cases also on the rise

In a separate report, Quintana Roo has accumulated 286 measles cases in 2026, adding 12 in one week. The incidence rate stands at 13.36 per 100,000 residents, placing the state 12th nationally. In 2025, only two cases were reported. No deaths have been recorded.

The state health department (Sesa) urged parents to complete vaccinations for children aged 6 months to 12 years. Vaccination sites can be found at dondemevacuno.salud.gob.mx.
