Tizimin, Yucatan — What began as a report of a possible security threat in the center of this city turned out to be a foreign audiovisual production, after the presence of people in tactical gear and objects resembling weapons caused confusion among residents.
On Saturday morning, citizens alerted emergency services via 911 after spotting a group of people wearing unusual clothing and carrying what appeared to be weapons near the intersection of 51st and 46th streets, an area with heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
Municipal police officers responded and intervened, conducting a verification of the reported potential risk. However, upon approaching, they confirmed that the items were props and filming equipment used by a foreign production crew.
From Alert to Filming
Once any threat was ruled out, authorities allowed the crew to continue their activities and even provided support for the filming, which extended to various points in downtown Tizimin, including areas near the municipal market.
Unofficially, the project is said to be a U.S. production, but the official name, distribution platform, and further details about the content have not yet been confirmed.
Attention-Grabbing Presence and Logistics
The crew’s movement did not go unnoticed. Residents and shopkeepers watched as shots were taken on public streets, with local citizens, including taxi drivers, participating — their vehicles were adapted for the scenes.
The presence of people with foreign appearances, professional equipment, and logistics unusual for the city sparked curiosity but also initial uncertainty, leading to the police mobilization.
Although the incident began with confusion, the day ended with Tizimin once again positioned as a point of interest for audiovisual productions, thanks to its urban landscape and ease of recreating different settings.
With no official information about the project, the filming continues to generate anticipation among residents, while the footage captured on the city’s streets could eventually become part of an international production still in development.
