Tulum, Quintana Roo — The National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (Conanp) has officially announced free and unrestricted access to Mangle Beach in Tulum. Access will be permitted on foot through the southern entrance of the Jaguar Park starting today, according to a statement made on the agency's social media channels.

The publication highlights that the area is a sea turtle nesting site, making it necessary for visitors to follow the instructions of authorities to protect them. The use of single-use plastics, littering, using speakers or musical instruments, lighting bonfires, smoking, flying drones, using sunscreen, and bringing pets are all prohibited in the zone.

"Anyone who wishes may enter between the hours of 8 in the morning and 5 in the afternoon on any day they like; it does not matter if they are a resident or a tourist, national or foreign," said Tulum Municipal President Diego Castañón on the matter.

The municipal president, along with federal and state authorities, participated in a working meeting on Monday, September 1st with dissatisfied citizens, where they managed to reach agreements that will mark the beginning of achieving significant benefits for the entire population regarding free access to beaches.

During the conversation, all parties agreed on the urgent need to implement the necessary changes to guarantee that both inhabitants and visitors can access the area of archaeological vestiges, which will help reactivate the economy for artisans, producers, vendors, and the general population.

Although many topics were discussed, two were principal: the first, to request an agreement between the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) and Conanp to open the servitude passage to the ruins zone; and the second, to send an official letter to the company Grupo Mundo Maya to arrange a meeting with authorities from the Jaguar Park who have the jurisdiction to respond to the requests.

"We will not stop fighting for the constitutional right of all people to freely access the beaches. This is a great step, and we will continue walking this path for the respect of our guarantees as Mexican people," emphasized Diego Castañón.
