Cancún, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa emphasized the critical support provided by the Well-Being Housing Program (Viviendas del Bienestar) for Quintana Roo residents who have never before had the opportunity to secure a home, as well as the regularization of unpayable INFONAVIT mortgage loans. She affirmed that the governments of the Fourth Transformation represent the crystallized hope of the people.
During the May 1 broadcast of La Voz del Pueblo, coinciding with Labor Day, Lezama expressed gratitude for the recent visit of President Claudia Sheinbaum and her strong commitment to closing the painful gaps of inequality left by neoliberal governments through social welfare programs.
A Government Focused on the People
Lezama highlighted the stark contrast between past administrations and the current transformative government, which prioritizes the needs of the people. "In Quintana Roo, we are a humanist government with a feminist heart, working to close the gaps of inequality," she stated.
She underscored that this administration combats corruption and ensures public funds are returned to the people, unlike previous governments where money was stolen and funneled into the pockets of a few, leaving citizens neglected.
"With a New Agreement for the Well-Being and Development of Quintana Roo, no one is left behind. We are a state growing at double digits, but we also work to ensure there are no successful tourist destinations with impoverished communities," she added.
Well-Being Housing Program and Infrastructure Advances
Lezama emphasized the significance of the Well-Being Housing Program, launched by President Sheinbaum during her recent visit to the state. A total of 5,632 homes with full services will be constructed for the same number of families in Quintana Roo. Additionally, INFONAVIT and FOVISSSTE are implementing a program to regularize unpayable mortgages.
The governor also announced upcoming federal projects, including the construction of a freight train station for the Maya Train and significant progress on the Cancún–Isla Blanca highway.
Celebrations and Tourism Achievements
Lezama reported that children in 100 rural communities celebrated Children’s Day in events organized by Verónica Lezama Espinosa, honorary president of DIF Quintana Roo. Mass celebrations were also held in seven municipal capitals, with events scheduled for Cancún, Chetumal, and Playa del Carmen.
Regarding tourism, Bacalar, a Pueblo Mágico, won the award for Best Health and Wellness Experience from México Desconocido at the Tianguis Turístico de México in Rosarito, Baja California. Mahahual was a finalist for Best Beach to Discover in 2025, while Cozumel was recognized as Best Pueblo Mágico for a Family Getaway. Cancún secured two categories in Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards "Best of the Best", based on tourist votes.
Anti-Corruption and Public Awareness Initiatives
Through the Secretariat of Anti-Corruption and Good Governance, the Guardianes de la Honestidad (Guardians of Honesty) program was launched to promote universal values among elementary school children. Using educational games like Valotería and La Gran Aventura, the initiative has already trained 2,345 students, with 168 designated as guardians and 70 educational kits distributed.
Lezama urged the public to remain vigilant against phone scams, particularly calls with UK prefixes, and highlighted the ongoing National Vaccination Week.
Infrastructure and Upcoming Events
The governor thanked the Mexican Army (SEDENA) for constructing 8.4 kilometers of access roads to the Kohunlich archaeological site in Othón P. Blanco. The next Public Audience will take place on May 9 in Rancho Viejo, Isla Mujeres’ mainland area.
