Quintana Roo’s 25-Year Development Plan to Start in 2027

Cynthia Dehesa, director of Citizens for Transparency, discusses the Quintana Roo Strategic Development Plan.

Chetumal, Quintana Roo – The Government of Quintana Roo recently presented the Strategic Plan for Sustainable Development 2025-2050, a long-term guide to harmonize economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection. The plan was built with citizen participation under the framework of the New Agreement for Well-being and Development, with the objective of meeting present needs without compromising the future.

Cynthia Dehesa, director of Citizens for Transparency, stated that this ordering instrument will begin to consolidate in the next government administration and that the first advances will be visible in 3 or 4 more years. Therefore, in the current government, there will be very few changes.

“Ideally, advances will begin to be seen in three or four years. In this administration, development plans will not be modified deeply, and existing ones will have very few changes. What must happen is that subsequent administrations, both municipal and state, align with the five axes and the objectives of each one. Thus, it will be from the next administration when in Quintana Roo this Strategic Plan begins to consolidate,” Dehesa said.

She considered that once this planning tool has been made public, the next step is to strengthen the State’s capacity to face upcoming challenges. With binding documents, work must be done on public policies that will support and drive new authorities for the consolidation of this model of democratic and participatory governance, where citizens will have a predominant role in monitoring and following up on the fulfillment of priority points.

“The launch of this Plan will be gradual, and each government will add the first actions, as it dictates what authorities must do. Therefore, public resources must be allocated to fulfill those objectives, while as citizens, it will be their role to demand it and ensure that the roadmap that will define the next 25 years of transformation that have been proposed is complied with,” she indicated.

Dehesa noted that this Plan, contemplated for the next 25 years, must be renewed every five years, incorporating new topics to keep this structure designed to evaluate, correct, and advance current. It is based on a State perspective but strengthened with diagnoses and citizen participation.

Therefore, she said, governments must preserve democratic exercise and shared vision, with a focus on the future to achieve the profound and sustained change of the entity that is projected.
