Chetumal, Quintana Roo — The 17th annual Chetumal Pride March will take place on Saturday, July 4, 2026, starting at 6 p.m., organizers announced. The march, themed “You Are the Most Important Piece,” aims to unite families, collectives, and allies in a peaceful demonstration demanding respect, equality, and full recognition of human rights.
Activist Anaiz Betancourt called on the public to join the mobilization, highlighting that discrimination and homophobia remain persistent issues in the state capital. She noted that members of the LGBTQ+ community regularly receive hate messages on social media and digital platforms, underscoring the need for continued institutional awareness.
“We have been fighting and resisting for 17 years. This march is for those who are no longer with us and for those who still face discrimination every day,” Betancourt said.
The march’s visual identity this year is inspired by a puzzle, with each piece symbolizing the diversity of society. The route will begin at the city’s Obelisk and proceed to the Flag Esplanade in a festive yet protest-driven atmosphere.
Organizers emphasized that the event’s logistics are designed to ensure a safe, violence-free space. Each year, they receive reports of people fearing to attend alone or facing reprisals for their sexual orientation or gender identity, so the focus will be on providing a peaceful environment and community support.
