CHETUMAL, Quintana Roo — The 2025 Patriotic Festival Organizing Committee has announced that Chetumal is ready to celebrate the 215th anniversary of the beginning of Mexico's struggle for independence. The event, which will take place throughout September, will include civic ceremonies, cultural activities, and popular festivities aimed at the entire family.
The festivities will commence on Monday, September 1, at 8:00 hours with the raising of the National Flag in front of the Government Palace, an act to be led by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, accompanied by civil and military authorities. At 9:00 hours, a floral offering will be placed at the Monument to Independence, paying homage to the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
The official program, the result of several working meetings between various state, federal, and municipal agencies, includes significant events such as:
- The Ceremony of the Cry of Independence, which will take place on the night of Monday, September 15, with a performance by a musical group yet to be confirmed.
- A civic-military parade on Tuesday, September 16.
- The commemoration of the 178th anniversary of the Heroic Deed of the Boy Heroes of Chapultepec on Saturday, September 13.
- The celebration of the 201st anniversary of the Annexation of Chiapas to Mexico on Sunday, September 14.
- Popular festivals and Mexican Nights every Saturday of the month at the Flag Esplanade and the Flag Civic Plaza, which will feature performances of folkloric ballet and Mexican music.
These activities are aligned with the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, promoted by Governor Lezama, which seeks to foster in the population a sense of identity and belonging towards Mexico and Quintana Roo, while simultaneously paying tribute to national heroes.
The Organizing Committee cordially invites Otho families and the general public to participate in the scheduled activities. Special security and medical attention devices will be implemented to guarantee the well-being of all attendees.
This September, Chetumal will be the epicenter of pride, history, and unity. The flame of Independence inspires us to build a stronger and more hopeful Mexico and Quintana Roo.
