CFE Deploys 10 Crews to Tackle Power Outages in Playa del Carmen

CFE workers repairing electrical infrastructure in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — After three days of intermittent blackouts, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has deployed 10 specialist crews across Playa del Carmen to address ongoing power failures.

Mayor Estefanía Mercado said the crews are working at multiple points in the city to identify and repair faults that have disrupted electricity supply. By late afternoon, teams were carrying out maintenance and grid-strengthening work in areas including Plaza Las Américas and the neighborhoods of Marsella, Los Olivos, Galaxia, Punta Estrella Cataluña, Bilbao, and Villas del Sol Plus.

According to information CFE provided to the mayor, this final calibration phase should restore normal service to the city.

“We remain in constant communication with CFE and are monitoring to ensure the work progresses as quickly as possible,” Mercado said.

The blackouts began Thursday night, affecting the southern and northwestern parts of Playa del Carmen. Neighborhoods including Real Ibiza, Paseos Sisal, Selvanova, and Ejido have experienced repeated power cuts, causing frustration among residents amid high regional temperatures.
