White Toyota truck involved in Cancún incident where National Guard officers were detained

Cancún, Quintana Roo — During the early hours of Monday morning, emergency services received a report of a firearm discharge in the Cielo Nuevo neighborhood of Cancún, Quintana Roo.

Following the report, security forces deployed an operation in the area and located a white Toyota truck traveling toward the North ramp. According to preliminary information, upon noticing police presence, the vehicle’s occupants attempted to flee toward the facilities of the Tenth Brigade battalion, located on the same ramp.

Police units initiated a pursuit that concluded meters ahead, where the truck was intercepted. At the site, four individuals were detained: three men and one woman. During the vehicle inspection, two firearms were secured.

Preliminary information indicated that one of the detained individuals holds the rank of captain and the others are officers belonging to the National Guard. Authorities have not yet officially confirmed the ranks or affiliation of those involved.

Approximately ten units from the State and Municipal Police, as well as personnel from the Navy Secretariat, arrived at the scene, providing support during the detainment of those arrested and securing the area.

Initial reports indicated that personnel from the National Defense Secretariat (SEDENA) subsequently arrived, who would have been informed of the events and the personnel involved. It has not been specified whether the detainees remained under civilian or military custody.

As of the close of this information, no injuries or material damages resulting from the firearm discharge were reported. Authorities continue with investigations to clarify the circumstances in which the incident occurred and determine corresponding responsibilities.
