Cancun Mall Parking Lot Back in Action After Fine Paid

The Plaza Las Americas parking lot in Cancun has reopened after paying a fine of 60 thousand pesos and promising to upgrade its equipment. The company managing the parking facility has committed to replacing malfunctioning machines and ensuring sufficient staffing to assist the public in case of any issues.

The company had to submit a work plan detailing the necessary repairs and upgrades, including machine replacements and staff availability. The goal is to ensure that if machines are not functioning correctly, there will be enough staff on hand to provide change and assistance to the public.

All machines at Plaza Las Americas are now fully functional, according to the General Secretary of Benito Juarez City Hall, Antonio Riveroll Ribbon. The Federal Consumer Prosecutor's Office (Profeco) has also conducted a supervisory visit to confirm this. "By Monday, they were able to open up, they were open, and operating according to their rate chart," Ribbon stated.

Although the existing machines are now operational, the parking service provider has committed to replacing them with new high-tech dispensers. These new machines, which will use QR codes instead of magnetic strip reading, are expected to be installed within the next three to four months. The machines are being sourced from Europe, which accounts for the implementation timeline.

If Plaza Las Americas fails to maintain adequate staffing levels to handle public complaints, the parking service could face another shutdown.
