Cancún, Mexico — In observance of the International Day of the Woman Entrepreneur, it was announced that the Secretary for Women in Quintana Roo has trained 1,900 women in various trades to become microbusiness owners.

Esther Burgos Jiménez, head of the state government's Secretary for Women, reported that with more than 57 training courses offered across various locations in the state, they have benefited women this year.

She explained that the program "Mujer Es Emprender" (Woman Is to Undertake) is designed to strengthen the economic autonomy of women through support, guidance, and connection with other entrepreneurs. The program seeks to train women who already have a startup venture, make their own products, or wish to learn a trade, across all municipalities of Quintana Roo.

"They are provided with training and guidance so that they have the necessary tools to strengthen their household economy," she said.

She added that there is no specific profile required to participate in the program, only that they are women between the ages of 18 and 65.

The beneficiaries participate by selling their products at commercial fairs organized throughout the year in the 11 municipalities. Many of the participants are single mothers and heads of household, but there are also married women who wish to provide an economic benefit for their home through an entrepreneurial venture.

"Sixty-three percent of the participants are young women, who have participated in 110 commercial fairs in various locations across Quintana Roo," she stated.

She commented that the call for applicants remains open year-round for women who wish to learn a trade or consolidate a venture they have already started. Furthermore, if they form a group of at least 20 members, they can request these training courses be brought to a location near them.
