Cancún Hosts Tourism Oscars for First Time

Cancún, Mexico — Representatives from 17 countries will visit Cancún for the first-ever celebration of the World Travel Awards, considered the Oscars of the tourism industry. This event solidifies the destination's position as one of the most important in the international sector.

The Secretary of Tourism for the Benito Juárez municipality, Pablo de Zulueta, confirmed that representatives are already confirmed for the celebration. He announced that a historic gala is expected, as it is the first time the awards will be held in the Mexican Caribbean, scheduled for September 27.

Quintana Roo has received nominations in several categories, including Leading Airport in Mexico and Central America for the Cancún terminal; Best Adventure Tourism Attraction for the Ruta de los Cenotes and Extreme Cancún; and Best Tourist Attraction for Tulum.

Cancún, Tulum, and the Riviera Maya are also nominated in the category of Best Beach Destination in Mexico and Central America. Cancún is similarly nominated for Best Business Destination and Best Escape Destination, alongside Playa del Carmen. Cancún is also nominated again for Best City Destination, in addition to being nominated for Best Visitors and Convention Bureau.

Holbox, Isla Mujeres, and Cozumel are nominated in the category of Best Island Destination, while Cancún also competes for Best Congress and Convention Destination, and Tulum is nominated for Best Romance Destination.

The hotels Almare, Luxury Collection Resort, Isla Mujeres; Hard Rock Cancún; Hard Rock Riviera Maya; Hilton Cancun Mar Caribe All-Inclusive Resort; Hilton Cancun, an All-Inclusive Resort; Hyatt Zilara Cancun; Hyatt Ziva Cancún; and Occidental Cozumel are competing for Best All-Inclusive Hotel in Mexico and Central America.

Meanwhile, Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancún; JW Marriott Cancun; Rosewood Mayakoba; and Sandos Playacar are competing in the Best Beach category.

The Thompson Playa del Carmen is featured in the Best Boutique Hotel category, while the Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancún is nominated for Best Conference Hotel.

Almare, a Luxury Collection Resort, Isla Mujeres and Marriott Cancún appear in the category of Best New Resort 2025, while Rosewood Mayakoba appears in the Best Luxury Wellness Resort category.

AVA Resort Cancún, México; Grand Velas Riviera Maya; Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancún; and Secrets Moxché Playa Del Carmen are nominated for Best Luxury All-Inclusive.

Meanwhile, the Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach and the Hard Rock Riviera Maya are competing for the Hotel of the Year category.

Furthermore, Costa Maya and Cozumel are nominated among the Best Cruise Destinations in Mexico and Central America, in addition to the Cancún Center competing to be the Best Convention Center.
