Cancún, Quintana Roo — Cancún will mark its 56th anniversary with a series of community events throughout April, centered at the Malecón Tajamar and the El Meco archaeological site, officials announced.

The festivities, scheduled from April 1 to 26, aim to unite residents and visitors around the city’s history, art, and local identity. Mayor Ana Paty Peralta confirmed the program, noting that activities tied to the city’s official founding date of April 20 will serve as a major celebration.

“This celebration confirms the monumental history of one of Mexico’s and the world’s most important tourist destinations,” Peralta said, adding that the full official agenda will be released on April 1.

El Meco will host events designed to highlight local identity, including meditation sessions intended to connect attendees with the pre-Hispanic site’s natural and spiritual environment.

The city will also hold a solemn City Council session to present the “Sigfrido Paz Paredes” Medal of Civic Merit, the municipality’s highest award for those who have significantly contributed to Cancún’s tourism and social development.

The traditional Cancunense Parade will take to the streets on Saturday, April 18, featuring associations of pioneers and founders who represent the living memory of the resort’s early years. “This parade is a tribute to those who arrived first and believed in this paradise,” Peralta stated.

Music will highlight the celebrations with a free concert by the group Los Ángeles Azules at Malecón Tajamar on Sunday, April 19, the day before the official anniversary. The cumbia performance is expected to draw thousands of families to the waterfront promenade, a symbol of reclaimed public space.

Mayor Peralta also emphasized that the agenda will include an Identity Rally, an activity designed for younger generations to explore and learn about the iconic landmarks that define Cancún’s character.
