Chetumal, MX — Asserting that taxi drivers are not overcharging for services, Rubén Carrillo Buenfil, secretary general of the Andrés Quintana Roo union in Cancún, clarified that the Quintana Roo Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo) has yet to issue a response to the fare increase request submitted months ago.
“We have gone seven years without a fare adjustment and we hope that, this time, before the year ends, we receive an official response, considering we have to face increases in the cost of supplies, spare parts, vehicle maintenance, and gasoline in recent years,” he insisted.
He reiterated that the taxi union has been persistent in requesting a fare increase due to the economic disparity recorded in recent years, “and the response is that the request is still under analysis and they do not know by what percentage it will be increased.”
“We hope that before the year ends we already have a response from Imoveqroo. We continue with the same fares and there is no unofficial increase prior to the start of the December holiday season,” he stated.
Carrillo Buenfil insisted that, so far, there has been no response from the mobility institute regarding the fare increase.
