Cancún, Quintana Roo — Cancún’s annual LGBT+ Pride march has been rescheduled for May 16, 2026, to avoid overlapping with similar events in other Quintana Roo municipalities, organizers announced.
Linger Mendez, founder of the Cancún Pride movement, said the city volunteered to kick off this year’s series of Pride events across the state by moving its march to mid-May. “The idea is that the dates don’t coincide with marches in other municipalities, so that as a collective, we can attend and support them,” Mendez explained.
The march will begin at 4 p.m. at Malecón Tajamar, proceeding along Avenida Tulum to Parque de las Palapas.
“We invite collectives, civil organizations, socially responsible companies, and the general public to join this great celebration of pride and human rights,” Mendez said, emphasizing that broad participation is crucial to making the community more visible and supported.
“It will be a moment to raise our voices, walk together, and show that in Cancún, love, respect, and equality unite us,” she added.
For its fourth edition, the Cancún Pride march will have support from the Alianza Nacional de Marchas LGBT+ México. “This offers the opportunity to showcase the social work carried out by the community in Quintana Roo, and also aims to position the Mexican Caribbean as a tourist destination friendly to this segment of the population,” Mendez noted.
She recalled that attendance has grown steadily, with over 5,000 people participating in the four-day event in 2025. “It’s not just people from the community, but also family members, friends, and we have the presence of various collectives focused on social, political, artistic, and cultural issues, as well as companies,” she affirmed.
Mendez stressed that the event is more than just a colorful parade with music—it includes a full program of activities benefiting society. This year’s schedule will feature events like the “Drag Supreme” and “Baby Drag” contests, and the election and coronation of “Rey Pride” on May 16-17, with organizers seeking to add another festival day.
With national organizational support, they also aim to promote Cancún as a “gay-friendly” destination. “We want tourists from the community to come experience future marches, guaranteeing safety and respect during their stay,” Mendez said.
