Cancún Police Foil Home Invasion in Supermanzana 25, Detain Three Suspects

Cancún, Quintana Roo — State police thwarted an attempted home invasion in Supermanzana 25 after neighbors spotted three men forcing their way into an unoccupied property and called emergency services.

One resident recorded video of the break-in on a cellphone and reported the unlawful entry on Calle Marañón to police as it unfolded at night. Following the 911 call, officers from the Public Security Department (SSC), backed by Mexican Navy personnel, moved in and removed the intruders from the house.

Preliminary reports indicated that two of the suspects are foreign nationals and one is Mexican. All three were placed in a state police patrol vehicle and handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for processing.

Neighbors told officers the three men had forced the lock on the front gate of the vacant home in an attempt to take possession of the property.

When discovered, the suspects claimed to some residents that the owner of the property had authorized them to occupy the house in exchange for rent, but they were unable to provide any proof.

A fourth person believed to have taken part in the incident left on a motorcycle before police arrived.

Officers arrested the suspected intruders, who were to be turned over to the State Prosecutor’s Office on suspicion of unlawful entry and attempted dispossession.

Some residents told police that this central part of the city has a number of abandoned houses that are at constant risk of being occupied by people possibly linked to criminal activity.
