Cancún, Mexico — Cancún municipal police have detained a woman identified as María Jovita after she was allegedly caught offering drugs to minors in the Villas Otoch Paraíso neighborhood.
The incident occurred during police patrols on Niños Héroes Avenue at its intersection with Lak'in Avenue. Officers from the Investigation Group observed three individuals exchanging small, transparent plastic bags.
Following an inspection, two of the individuals involved were determined to be minors. As no illicit substances were found in their possession, they were released. The procedure continued with the third individual, the female suspect, upon whom various items related to drug peddling were found.
Items Seized by Cancún Police
Authorities reported the seizure of the following items:
- One black fanny pack
- 31 small bags containing green, dry herb (marijuana)
- 21 small bags containing solid, transparent fragments (crystal)
- 8 small bags containing solid, white fragments (crack)
- 14 small bags containing white powder (cocaine)
- $290.00 pesos in cash
- Two cell phones
The woman was turned over to the Specialized Prosecutor's Office Combating Drug Dealing (Fiscalía Especializada en Combate al Delito de Narcomenudeo), which will continue with the investigation.
Authorities are urging citizens to report any suspicious activity that may endanger the safety of children and adolescents in Cancún.
