Cancún, Quintana Roo — Municipal authorities closed the parking lot at Cancún Mall in Supermanzana 228 after it charged unauthorized fees, following repeated complaints from users about the operator Nice Parking.
The city’s Fiscalization Directorate carried out the operation at midday, confirming the establishment lacked a valid operating license. Officials placed closure seals on the lot and said the fine could exceed 586,000 pesos, equivalent to 5,000 Units of Measurement and Update (UMAs).
Benito Juárez municipal secretary Pablo Gutiérrez Fernández said the intervention was a direct response to citizen complaints.
“We have been receiving requests from Cancún residents who have been affected by the operation of this parking lot,” he said, adding that various municipal departments coordinated to verify the facility’s conditions, which did not meet minimum legal requirements to provide service in the area.
During the inspection, authorities found the operator charged 15 pesos for the first two hours, with an additional 5 pesos for extra fractions — amounts not officially approved.
Gutiérrez clarified that no update or permit has been granted to raise parking costs in the sector.
“Nothing is authorized. We have discussed this on several occasions: first, priority must be given to providing an efficient, quality service for the user before considering a rate change. That is completely ruled out,” he emphasized.
The official said inspections will extend to other shopping centers in the city to prevent similar abuses. The city remains in contact with various operators to urge improvements in quality and safety, and will continue surveillance operations with municipal forces to ensure user rights and regulations are respected.
