Cancún, Mexico — The Benito Juárez Municipal Government has introduced new identification badges featuring QR codes that allow citizens to identify, rate, and report on the performance of public servants. This initiative is part of the "Cero Corrupción" (Zero Corruption) campaign, which aims to improve citizen services and guarantee transparency in common procedures such as obtaining birth, marriage, or death certificates.
A Scan to Evaluate Service
Each badge contains a unique QR code. By scanning it, any individual can verify the public servant's identity, rate their service, and, if necessary, file a complaint or report. Authorities explain that the objective is for citizens to actively participate in improving public service and combating corruption through direct contact with the officials who assist them.
A Step Towards Building Citizen Trust
During the distribution of 85 badges to Civil Registry personnel, it was highlighted that this department is one of the most frequently visited, making transparency a key priority.
"We must change the idea that public service is synonymous with corruption or laziness," stated Municipal President Ana Paty Peralta, who affirmed that this system seeks to regain the public's trust in their government.
The initiative will also allow citizen complaints to be sent directly to the Municipal Comptroller's Office, where reports will be analyzed. If irregularities are detected, administrative sanctions will be applied.
Towards a More Transparent Government
According to the Secretariat for Anti-Corruption and Good Government, the Civil Registry represents "the face of the government" because it accompanies families during important moments in their lives. Therefore, the new badges serve not only for identification but also to give a voice to the citizenry.
With this measure, Cancún takes a step towards a more participatory and transparent model, where citizens can evaluate and demand dignified treatment in every public procedure.
