Cancun, Quintana Roo — The Association of Hotels of Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres has donated 100,000 pesos (about $5,000 USD) to the Mexican Red Cross to support its humanitarian work in the region.

Carlos Constandse Madrazo, director of the Red Cross in Cancun, said the donation, along with the efforts of volunteer women’s groups, helps sustain the emergency services that thousands of residents rely on each year.

“We provide an average of 12,000 to 13,000 services per year, and many lives are saved thanks to this support,” Constandse said.

The Red Cross in Cancun operates on an annual budget of about 46 million pesos ($2.3 million USD), including payroll for 100 employees. Constandse noted that donations from institutions like the hotel association and the state government are crucial to maintaining operations.

Rodrigo de la Peña, president of the hotel association, pledged to extend the Red Cross fundraising campaign to all member hotels, reaching tourists, workers and their families to increase contributions.
