Cancún, Quintana Roo — The first international HYROX event held outdoors in Cancún set an attendance record at Malecon Tajamar, drawing more than 10,000 athletes from 16 countries and various Mexican states, along with over 35,000 spectators during the three-day competition.
Governor Mara Lezama highlighted that hosting this international event confirms Cancún’s potential to accommodate large-scale sports competitions and project itself globally in sports tourism, as the “World Capital of Vacations.”
“More than 35,000 spectators over three days and thousands of athletes participating allow us to tell the world that we are also a sports destination and that the Mexican Caribbean is the World Capital of Vacations,” she said.
The event brought together professional and amateur competitors who faced a series of physical tests combining endurance, strength, and running, in a format that has become one of the most important international fitness circuits.
Following the success of this first outdoor edition, authorities and organizers announced that work has already begun for the next event in 2027, aiming to establish Cancún as a permanent venue for high-performance international competitions.
Accompanying the Governor were Verónica Lezama Espinosa, honorary president of the Quintana Roo DIF System, and Juan Pablo de Zulueta, municipal tourism secretary of Benito Juárez.
