CANCÚN, Q. Roo — Benito Juárez municipal president Ana Paty Peralta announced that 725 body-worn cameras designated for active-duty police officers in Cancún are now in operation.
With an investment of 30 million pesos, the project aims to integrate advanced technology to record officers' activities, reinforcing transparency and trust in their work. The devices are not assigned to a specific officer; they are issued at the start of each shift and collected at the end, allowing for their rotational use among agents.
These cameras were specially designed for uniformed officers who patrol the streets and maintain direct contact with citizens. The implementation also includes a biometric and facial recognition database for the 1,500 members of the police force, which guarantees precise control over the use of the equipment and the identification of officers.
Furthermore, the cameras are equipped with a security system that prevents officers from turning them off or deleting recordings during their shift, ensuring the integrity of the evidence gathered each day.
This scheme represents a significant advancement in the modernization of public security in Cancún, reinforcing the supervision of police units and guaranteeing the appropriate handling of technology.
