Cancun, Quintana Roo — The city is moving forward with a stormwater drainage project in flood-prone neighborhoods, as three new absorption wells enter their final phase of construction.
The wells, located in the residential blocks known as supermanzanas 200 and 201, are in their final leveling stage and are designed to improve rainwater drainage. Two wells are being built on Avenida Hacienda de Chunchucmil in Supermanzana 200, while a third is located in Supermanzana 201.
The project includes 31 gully inlets and well mouths, along with 1,085 linear meters of 14-inch absorption wells. City officials said the infrastructure is intended to reduce street flooding and strengthen Cancun’s hydraulic network.
Landy Guadalupe Canché Pantoja, acting head of the Municipal Presidency, toured the sites with officials from the Public Works and Services Department to review the final work on the affected roadways.
The program also covers 12 other supermanzanas across the city. As part of maintenance efforts, municipal crews cleaned wells in supermanzanas 213 and 235, removing vegetation, dirt, and other debris that had been obstructing sewers. In Supermanzana 235, a separate collection drive picked up furniture, tires, and appliances to discourage illegal dumping and reduce health risks for residents.
