Canadian Tourists Injured in Tulum Razer Vehicle Accident

A razer vehicle involved in an accident in Tulum with emergency responders on scene

Tulum, Quintana Roo — A Canadian tourist couple was injured and hospitalized after their rented recreational razer vehicle crashed into a tree in Tulum. The accident occurred on Juan Ek Street at the intersection with Kukulcán Avenue, where the vehicle lost control and collided with a tree.

According to witness accounts gathered at the scene, the man and woman lost control of the vehicle for reasons that have not yet been confirmed, causing them to veer off the road and crash directly. After the impact, both showed visible injuries and bleeding, prompting witnesses to immediately request support through the 911 emergency number.

Municipal paramedics arrived at the site and provided pre-hospital care to the two foreigners. Following an initial assessment, it was determined they should be transferred to a private hospital for better medical attention due to the nature of their injuries. The tourists were taken to CostaMed Hospital, where they remained under medical observation.

Municipal Transit officers also arrived at the scene to document the incident, conduct corresponding investigations, and assist with traffic management, as the accident caused vehicular congestion in that section of the avenue. For several minutes, traffic was partially affected while attention and removal of the involved vehicle were carried out.

Representatives from the rental company of the recreational vehicle also attended, as a review of the vehicle’s mechanical condition was initiated. One preliminary hypothesis points to a possible mechanical failure, specifically a chain blowout, which may have caused the loss of control; however, the competent authority will be responsible for determining the exact causes of the accident once investigations and expert assessments are completed.

Authorities reiterated the call to visitors and tourism service providers to exercise extreme caution when using recreational vehicles, as well as to verify that units are in optimal condition, in order to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of both tourists and residents.
