CHETUMAL, Mexico — A Canadian national caused a major collision between two vehicles on Monday afternoon, resulting in significant material damage in the Las Casitas neighborhood of Chetumal.
According to initial reports, the accident occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m. at the intersection of Efraín Aguilar and Francisco I. Madero avenues. Witnesses stated the incident took place when the driver, a Canadian national operating a green Suzuki SUV, attempted to cross the avenue without checking his surroundings, causing another vehicle to strike him.
As a consequence of the imprudent maneuver, the SUV was projected forward and ended up overturned, coming to rest in that position.
Paramedics from the Red Cross's Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene of the incident afterward to attend to the occupants of the vehicles, who sustained only minor injuries.
Personnel from the Municipal Traffic Directorate also arrived in the area of the incident to document the facts and determine liability. Both vehicles were transported to an impound lot so that the insurance of the at-fault driver can cover the expenses caused by this collision.
