Chetumal. – This Sunday at the Government Palace in the city of Chetumal, 66 breast prostheses and 124 orthopedic bras were delivered to women from throughout the municipality of Othón P. Blanco who have faced breast cancer, with the objective of enabling them to lead a fuller life after having overcome the disease, reconnecting with their bodies.
During the talk prior to the delivery of the prostheses and bras, held in the Cuna del Mestizaje hall of the Government Palace, the State Government assured that the city’s Oncology Hospital will be equipped with a new state-of-the-art tomography scanner so that more women have access to their corresponding check-ups and, with this, can prevent the disease from its early stages as much as possible.
Likewise, emphasis was placed on providing greater access to mammograms, laboratory tests, electrocardiograms, and dental care to maintain comprehensive health for all women from Othón P. Blanco.
Regarding the delivery made, the director of Public Beneficence, Claudia Gómez, thanked the management and procedures that made possible the delivery of these prostheses and orthopedic bras that will be of great use to breast cancer survivors in leading a fuller life that reconnects them with their physicality. In this sense, Yolanda Nicolás Cuervo, one of the beneficiaries, expressed her gratitude: “Honestly, I didn’t think they would give them to us; honestly, I doubted it, but now I see it’s a reality. Thank you very much.”
Finally, the honorary president of DIF Quintana Roo recognized the women present for the enormous struggle they have lived through to survive this disease, noting that they are “brave women who have fought, resisted, cried, and who have gotten back on their feet,” assuring that as part of the delivery “We come to honor their stories because we know that breast cancer, besides being a physical battle, is also one of the entire soul.”
