Bacalar, Quintana Roo — The traditional San Joaquín Bacalar Fair 2025, one of the most anticipated celebrations in southern Quintana Roo, will take place from August 14 to 20, drawing thousands of local and international visitors to honor the municipality’s patron saint.

The Bacalar City Council, in coordination with the Expo-Feria Bacalar 2025 Organizing Committee, held a press conference this morning to announce the full schedule of events. The festivities will feature sports activities, cultural performances, a highly anticipated federated horse parade, and live music for public dances.

A Celebration of Culture and Community

All events will be free of charge, with a special security operation in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for attendees. Bacalar Mayor José Alfredo Contreras Méndez thanked participants for their presence and acknowledged the support of Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa for her invaluable contributions to this year’s edition.

“This fair is one of the most awaited events by the people of Bacalar and neighboring municipalities, including Chetumal and communities in Belize. We take pride in preserving our roots while offering an event that not only celebrates our culture but also diversifies our tourism industry,” he said.

During the presentation, Nayeli Abigail Arjona Fuentes was symbolically crowned as the fair’s elected queen, representing the community throughout the festivities.

Strengthening Tourism and Tradition

Hiram Gómez, the municipal Tourism Director, emphasized that the fair serves as a platform to promote cultural tourism.

“This is not just a celebration of our traditions and culture but also a reflection of our community’s vibrant and welcoming spirit,” he stated.

The official program includes nightly performances by renowned musical acts on the main stage:

  • August 14 – Grupo Aroma
  • August 15 – Master Cumbia

Juan Enrique Martínez Navarrete, president of the association, announced that a new equine transport trailer will be raffled as an incentive for participation.

“All registered riders wearing their wristbands will be eligible for the raffle. Public safety personnel and Civil Protection teams will also be present to ensure the well-being of attendees,” he explained.
