Cancún, Quintana Roo — Authorities raided and sealed a downtown bar early Sunday morning as part of a human trafficking investigation, drawing attention from residents and passersby in the busy tourist district.
The operation targeted the Perla Negra bar on Tulum Avenue, located just meters from the city hall. Agents from the Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Human Trafficking and Exploitation of Children and Adolescents (FECDTENNA) executed a search warrant authorized by a judge.
Witnesses reported that the large police presence attracted notice in the central zone, with multiple official vehicles creating a spectacle for area merchants and residents.
After entering the establishment, investigators spent several minutes inspecting different areas, interviewing people present, and collecting evidence related to potential criminal activity.
Upon completing their work, agents placed official seals on the bar’s entrances, indicating the property now remains under the prosecutor’s custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
Unofficial reports suggest the establishment may belong to a locally influential person, which initially led authorities to handle information discreetly. However, officials proceeded according to legal protocols and emphasized that investigations continue, with the appropriate agency determining any responsibilities.
The prosecutor’s office has not yet issued an official statement detailing how many people may have been brought before authorities or providing specific updates on the investigation. More information is expected in coming hours about the case, which has raised concerns among citizens due to the business’s location in one of the city’s most trafficked and emblematic areas.
