Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A young child, approximately two years old, was rescued by authorities after being found alone and unsupervised for several hours inside a residence in the Pescadores neighborhood.

The operation was initiated after neighbors, who had heard the toddler crying from inside the home for an extended period, placed a call to the 911 emergency number. Concerned that the child could suffer an accident, the neighbors reportedly allowed some time to pass before ultimately deciding to contact authorities.

Personnel from the Secretariat of Civil Protection, Risk Prevention, and Firefighters, alongside officers from the Secretariat of Citizen Security of Playa del Carmen, responded to the scene. Upon arrival and confirming that no adult was present with the minor, and finding both the doors and windows locked, the rescue teams made the decision to force entry into the property.

After entering the home, officials confirmed that the child had been without adult supervision for hours and immediately took her into their custody for her safety.

Once the toddler was out of danger, she was formally handed over to the Grupo Especializado de Atención a la Violencia Familiar y de Género (GEAVIG), or Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence. The group is responsible for conducting a full assessment of the situation, providing temporary shelter, and managing the subsequent follow-up procedures.

The circumstances that led to the child being left alone remain under investigation. It is not known if the child's parents had left for work and, having no one to leave her with, took the opportunity to depart while she was sleeping.
