Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The Attorney General's Office of the State of Quintana Roo announced the successful rescue of a 16-year-old American adolescent following a coordinated international operation with the United States National Security Investigations Attaché. A property in Playa del Carmen's Playacar subdivision, allegedly used for the production of child pornography, was also secured.

Attorney General Raciel López Salazar stated that the investigation began after a report from United States authorities, who detected images of child abuse circulating on the Dark Web. This information led to inquiries that allowed officials to locate a property in the Playacar subdivision, which was allegedly being used to produce the illicit material.

Upon executing a search warrant at the residence, authorities located and took the minor into protective custody. They also seized electronic equipment, which will be subjected to forensic analysis to further the investigation. The adolescent has been placed under protection in a safe environment where she is receiving comprehensive, specialized care.

The Attorney General's Office indicated that this case constitutes an example of transnational human trafficking, demonstrating the importance of cooperation between institutions from different countries to combat this type of crime. The searched property was secured to continue the ministerial investigations.

Finally, Raciel López Salazar reiterated his commitment to fighting crimes against children and recognized the support of international agencies in achieving immediate results for the protection of victims.
